Building the Operating System for Modern Film Production

Overview
Film and television productions have traditionally relied on spreadsheets, disconnected software, email threads, and manual coordination to manage increasingly complex workflows. Filmik was created to replace those fragmented processes with a single platform built specifically for how productions actually operate.
Dutch partnered with Filmik from the earliest stages of product definition, helping identify the market opportunity, shape the product vision, design production-first workflows, and build a scalable SaaS platform serving coordinators, performers, production offices, and independent productions.
Beyond product strategy, Dutch established and led the product organization itself. We assembled and managed the development and design teams, directed day-to-day product execution, prioritized the roadmap, and guided feature development from concept through deployment. This operational model allowed the platform to evolve rapidly while maintaining a clear long-term product vision.
Rather than adapting generic project management software, Filmik was architected around real production operations. Working alongside industry professionals, Dutch mapped department workflows, designed role-based permissions, and developed collaborative systems that simplify production management while supporting both union and non-union productions. As the platform matured, AI-powered script breakdowns, performer profiles, submission workflows, media management, production documentation, and analytics transformed Filmik into a true operating system for modern production.
To support long-term scalability, new capabilities were developed as independent microservices connected to the platform’s core architecture, allowing features to be released, updated, and expanded without disrupting the broader application. The administrative back office was also completely reimagined, providing production teams with the tools needed to manage users, projects, communications, reporting, and platform operations more efficiently.
